E ko mai, welcome to Maika’i Wellness Center’s first monthly newsletter. Jenny and I are so excited to have reached our 6th month mark in business as Maika’i Massage. For those of you who may be wondering what Maika’i means it is the Hawaiian word for the essence of everything that is good. We fell in love with this unique word as we searched for a distinct name to represent our vision. Here we are, one year from the birth of that dream, making it a reality. It has required a tremendous amount of hard work and long hours yet the many absolutely awesome days with our team and our guests make the journey worth the effort!
I would like to introduce Makai’s amazing staff of licensed massage therapists (LMT) and our office administrator whom have each taken a big chance by signing on with a startup massage studio.
Angelee Oh, Clayton Tune, Darren Cyrus, Gel Rivera, Hali Flanagan, Jessica Curry, Liz Olsen, Nicole Holt, Peter Carrol, Stephanie Hernandez, and Tara McMillan, Jenny & I cannot thank each of you enough for coming to work with us every day.
A short recap of our adventure, to date.
October 2018 Maikai Wellness Center and Maika’i Massage was born.
November, December 2018, and January, February 2019 were busy with lease signing remodeling and applying for our permits.
In March we finally received all our permits from the Prince William County and the state of Virginia. We opened the doors on the 15th. with 5 LMT’s on staff. A huge shout out to Donna Angel our first guest.
April and May amazed us with rapid growth as we doubled the number of guests served.
June, July and August we anticipated less traffic as families and households travel yet we were thrilled to see continued growth each month. We expanded the team to the current staff levels.
We are most excited about our September accomplishments. We installed our beautiful sign on the front of the building! Huge thank you to Matt McAdams, owner and operator of the Sign Medic.
LMT training was a paramount focus as we hosted continuing education
classes at the studio. Eight of Maika’i Massage LMT’s became certified in, Spinal Reflex Therapy (SRT). Each LMT that participated, worked hard and studied even harder. We are pleased to say 100% of Maika’i Massage LMT’s are trained as SRT specialist!! With this advanced training, guest receiving a clinical massage treatment can expect to experience significant if not immediate pain relief. SRT uses a massage approach to address the nervous system through superior assessment and pressure point application customized to each guest. WELL DONE TEAM!
We’ve expanded our diverse offerings in other areas also. We are now offering our first product line at the studio, doTerra essential oils, a “Gift of the Earth”. These Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade (CPTG) essential oils will be offered with select massages services and will be for sale in the studio.
Lastly, we hosted our first of many free public classes in our Molokai Room. Weekly classes will be announced on our website and our Facebook page.

Hawaiian Word of the month
Part of Hawaiian culture, ʻohana means family (in an extended sense of the term, including blood-related, adoptive or international). The concept emphasizes that families are bound together, and members must cooperate with and remember one another.
